Rev. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina, Celebrates 8 Years as Director of the Department of Church and Society and CEO of Caritas Nigeria
On a significant milestone, Rev. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina, PhD, Executive Secretary/CEO of the Department of Church and Society of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria and CEO of Caritas Nigeria, marked his 8th year in office with a heartfelt Thanksgiving Mass. Surrounded by staff, friends, and well-wishers, Fr. Obodoechina offered gratitude for the journey that began on October 2, 2016.
The Mass, celebrated by Most Rev. Godfrey I. Onah, Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, was a reflective and inspiring ceremony. Most Rev. Isaac Dugu, Catholic Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, delivered a homily that highlighted the milestones of Fr. Obodoechina’s leadership, urging the lay faithful to embrace a spirit of prayer, steadfastness, and gratitude, especially during life’s challenges.
Drawing parallels between Fr. Obodoechina’s service and the mission of Caritas Nigeria in supporting the poor and vulnerable, Bishop Dugu encouraged the congregation to reflect on the values of compassion and service. On the day of the Universal Church’s commemoration of the Guardian Angels, he urged all present to embody the same compassion as angels by increasing acts of charity toward one another.
Following the Mass, a warm reception was held, bringing together priests, religious leaders, and staff members of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, along with distinguished guests. Representatives from partner organizations, including Catholic Relief Services, CAFOD, and Misereor, were also in attendance to honor Fr. Obodoechina’s contributions.
During the event, Fr. Obodoechina took the opportunity to express his deep gratitude to God and the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria for entrusting him with the leadership role. He reflected on the countless blessings and graces he experienced during his tenure. He unveiled his latest book, Becoming the Change You Desire, which explores themes of leadership, personal transformation, and service.
