Caritas Nigeria and JDPC Collaborate with NEMA and SEMA

Caritas Nigeria and the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of Maiduguri Diocese are committed to improving the lives of those affected by the Lake Chad crisis.

On July 17, our team met with key government officials to strengthen collaborations for the successful implementation of our “Food Security and Humanitarian Protection for Victims of the Lake Chad Crisis” project. We met with the Desk Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Nigeria (Borno State Chapter), Sai’d Alkali, and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Director of Operations, Abdullahi Suleiman.

We discussed how the Auswärtiges Amt-funded project will expand its reach to 15 communities across Magumeri, Pulka, and Kaga LGAs, building on the success of the SAHaRA project. The government officials pledged their support to ensure the project’s success in delivering essential services such as child protection, food security, nutrition, mental health support, and WASH.

To better understand the community’s needs, we also held a community entry meeting in Sheluri and Maramari communities in Magumeri LGA. This engagement is crucial in tailoring our interventions to address their specific challenges.

We are grateful for the support of our partners and remain dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance and building resilience in affected communities.
