Caritas Nigeria Executive Secretary/CEO, Uchechukwu Obodoechina, welcomes the new Country Representative of Catholic Relief Services Nigeria Mr. Akin Kikonda during a courtesy visit to Caritas Nigeria Country Office, Abuja, on Thursday the 9th of November, 2023.

This was a familiarization visit between both leaders of the sister agencies, who have been working collaboratively since Caritas Nigeria was formally established in September 2010. The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) through years of partnership, has supported Caritas Nigeria interventions at various levels, as well as providing institutional strengthening capacity support to the different Diocesan structures through Caritas Nigeria.

Rev. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina, during the discussions, highlighted the huge impact that Catholic Relief Services has made through such collaborations with Caritas Nigeria and the Church as a whole. This he said has been possible through partnerships with successive leaderships of Catholic Relief Services over the years. He prayed that both organizations will continue in this path to further strengthen their partnership in serving those most in need.

Similarly, Mr. Akin Kikonda expressed his delight at the immense growth of Caritas Nigeria over the years, as he had been part of the team in Catholic Relief Services that worked with the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria during the early days when Caritas Nigeria was being conceived, many years ago, before he left Nigeria. He noted that Nigeria for him and his wife has always been a second home and he was glad to be back and to work collaboratively with Caritas Nigeria and other relevant organizations.

The meeting ended with a commitment of both leaders to work collaboratively in strengthening the partnership that already exists while exploring more opportunities to provide services for vulnerable groups and those most in need so that everyone will enjoy the fullness of life.
