Pope Francis Calls for October 7 to Be a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace

Pope Francis has made a heartfelt appeal for peace, urging Christians worldwide to dedicate October 7 as a day of prayer and fasting. In the face of ongoing global conflict, he emphasized the urgent need for the Christian community to unite and serve humanity during these troubled times. The Pope’s plea comes amid what he described as “this dramatic hour of our history,” where “the winds of war and the fires of violence” continue to devastate nations and communities.
Addressing the faithful in St. Peter’s Square, during the opening of the second session of the General Assembly of the Synod, Pope Francis reminded Christians of their sacred duty to seek peace. He invited all synod members to join him in a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major on October 6, where he will offer a “heartfelt petition to the Virgin” in prayer for peace.
“Let us walk together,” Pope Francis urged. “Let us listen to the Lord. And let the spirit breeze lead us.”
