In a homily delivered 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time at St. Michael’s Police Chaplaincy, Maitama, Abuja, last week, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama has emphasized the role of law enforcement in society, reiterating the familiar adage, “Police is your friend.

Addressing the congregation, which included members of the Nigeria Police Force, Archbishop Kaigama insisted that Police is your friend only when you keep the law.

The Abuja Chief Shepherd highlighted the recent recovery of a stolen monstrance from the Police Chaplaincy in Nyanya, as a clear demonstration of effective policing.

The Archbishop commended the police for their swift action in apprehending the culprits, even as he stressed that their dedication is crucial to maintaining law and order.

Archbishop Kaigama’s words at the Chaplaincy resonated deeply as he connected the importance of obeying civil laws with the adherence to God’s commandments.

He urged the faithful to uphold the law as a reflection of their faith, assuring them that law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear from the police, who stand as protectors of peace and justice in the community.

His homily served as a reminder of the mutual respect and cooperation that should exist between the public and the police, emphasizing that the law is a guide not only for maintaining societal order but also for living a righteous life.
