Caritas Nigeria is committed to addressing the pressing needs of vulnerable communities in Nigeria

As part of its Institutional Capacity Strengthening Project, Caritas Nigeria has awarded seed grants to participating dioceses to address pressing community needs. In Wukari, the chosen project focuses on providing access to clean water for vulnerable communities and schools in Tor Damisa.
The region has faced significant challenges due to the ongoing conflict between the Tivs and Jukuns, leading to displacement and a humanitarian crisis. The lack of quality water has exacerbated the situation, with a surge in cholera and diarrhea cases reported.
A Strategic Partnership for Impact
Funded by Catholic Relief Services, the project aims to empower Catholic agencies to respond effectively to both development and humanitarian crises within Nigeria. By adopting a coaching and mentoring approach, the project fosters knowledge sharing and capacity building among partners.
St. Peter’s Secondary School, strategically located within the affected communities, has been selected as the site for the borehole drilling. This initiative will not only benefit the school but also the surrounding communities, providing a vital source of clean water.
By addressing the critical water shortage, Caritas Nigeria and its partners are working towards reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases and enhancing the overall health and well-being of the population. This project underscores the organization’s dedication to sustainable development and capacity building in the regions it serves.
