Fr Audu Sets Eight-Point Agenda, Outlines Priorities to Position Caritas Nigeria
Caritas Nigeria has convened its first General Staff Meeting of the year, with the Executive Secretary/CEO, Fr. Peter Audu, unveiling an eight-point agenda aimed at strengthening the organisation and positioning it for greater impact.
The hybrid meeting brought together staff from offices across the six geopolitical zones and was moderated by the Senior Advisor, Communications, Cecilia Inyagbe Agrinya, alongside Dr. Michael Ibe, Programme Advisor, Institutional Capacity Strengthening Unit.
Setting the tone for the year, Fr. Audu anchored his vision on Innovate, Consolidate, Accelerate, and Harvest of Hope, acknowledging the challenges of 2025 while commending staff for milestones achieved, particularly members of the Caritas Nigeria @15 Planning Committee.
Reviewing institutional progress, the Executive Secretary highlighted gains in partnership strengthening, workflow and approval reforms, improved communication responsiveness, HR credential compliance, field visibility, staff capacity development, and enhanced systems linking payroll and timekeeping.
Looking ahead, he stressed the need for innovation, knowledge management, research, and deeper technological integration while maintaining Caritas Nigeria’s human-centred approach.
He then outlined his eight-point agenda, which includes strengthening discipline and institutional culture; developing income-generating models; enhancing monitoring visits; promoting a “One Caritas Nigeria” spirit; improving staff development and welfare; mandating bi-annual departmental innovation proposals; operationalising defined thematic areas; and advancing technological efficiency.
The meeting featured presentations on safeguarding, work-life balance and mental health, the new tax policy, and the staff health insurance scheme.
Staff were also informed that distribution of the 2026 Caritas Nigeria Year Planner has commenced.
The Chief of Party/Principal Investigator, Dr. John Oko, urged staff to embrace innovation amid dwindling funding.
Fr. Audu also announced plans to introduce special staff awards to recognise ethics, accountability, longevity, and outstanding contributions, before commending the organisation to the maternal care of the Virgin Mary and encouraging staff to remain resilient and hopeful.
