About the Department
The Church and Society Department of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria is comprised of four units: Education Unit, Family and Human Life Unit, Health Unit and Justice Development and Peace Committee/Caritas Unit (JDPC). It is headed by a Director who coordinates the overall strategy and programmatic directions of the four composite units. The director is supported by the Departmental Secretary.

To spearhead and facilitates the teaching, prophetic and pastoral care ministries of the Catholic church, and to promote Christ’s civilization of love in Nigeria and the whole world.
The Journey So Far…
The Church and Society Department is one of the six (6) department of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria.
Coordinates the social services and charitable works of the Church in Nigeria. It translates the gosple message into day-to-day life experiences of the people.

Leadership

Rev. Fr. Peter Babangida Audu is the Director of the Church and Society Department at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria and the Executive Secretary of Caritas Nigeria.
He is a highly accomplished leader and seasoned development professional with over 30 years of experience in pastoral ministry, social development, and advocacy—particularly in advancing the rights and welfare of children and women.
In his current capacity, Fr. Audu provides strategic leadership and oversight for five key units within the Church and Society Department: Health, Education, Family and Human Life, Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), and the Migrants and Refugees Unit.
