Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria Launches Apostolate of Pastoral Care of Migration
Abuja, Nigeria – July 26, 2024 – The Migrants and Refugees Unit of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) has successfully launched the Apostolate of Pastoral Care of Migration. The two-day event, held on July 24-25, 2024, brought together key stakeholders from the Catholic Church to address the pressing challenges faced by migrants and refugees in Nigeria.
The program, aimed at training priests, religious, and lay faithful on pastoral care for migrants and refugees, is a direct response to the growing crisis affecting countless individuals and families. By fostering collaboration among Catholic dioceses, the Apostolate seeks to develop sustainable solutions and provide support to those in need.
Representatives from regional and international organizations, including ECOWAS, RECOWA, and IOM, participated in the event, offering their support and recognizing the Church’s crucial role in addressing the challenges of migration and displacement. The event also witnessed the launch of a prayer manual, “Spiritual Advocacy for Migrants and Refugees,” which provides spiritual guidance and support for those affected by displacement.
The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria is committed to upholding the dignity and human rights of migrants and refugees. Through the Apostolate of Pastoral Care of Migration, the Church aims to build stronger networks, promote human development, and advocate for policies that protect and assist those forced to flee their homes.
